About the Organization

Women Aloud Video Empowerment is a citizen journalism initiative selected for a $100,000 grant by The MacArthur Foundation. The goal of the project is to enable young Indian women with the tools and training in order to tell their own stories as citizen journalists reporting from all over India. The selection process took place with NGOs and colleges that helped to identify a young woman within their community for the one year mentorship program.

Training and Facilitation

Over the course of an intensive ten days, video production and story editing trainings with a group of thirty women. I also created and published a twelve-part training curriculum in which there are media training modules on storytelling techniques and basic video production skills.

Outcome & Impact

Each of the WAVE women produced several video blogs for the channel, which was circulated on social media and across digital platforms in India. This created education and awareness of issues pertaining to women and girls across all the Indian states, some of which are not represented in mainstream media.
